Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of assault on a woman.
